Man, 24, fights for life after being assaulted with metal pole near Thames in Vauxhall

A 24-year-old man is fighting for life after being attacked with a metal pole near the River Thames in Vauxhall early on Sunday.

Police were called to the Albert Embankment near Vauxhall Bridge shortly before 4.15am to reports of a man being attacked with a metal pole.

Alongside paramedics, they found the victim suffering a head injury, with his condition since assessed as life-threatening.

Two men, aged 23 and 21, were arrested near to the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, police said. Both men remain in police custody.

Detectives from the Met’s South Central BCU urged witnesses to the attack to come forward, saying CCTV showed a number of people in the area.

The location is close to Vauxhall Tube and bus stations.
