The road was closed for some time as the crash site was examined but it has since fully reopened.

Gardai in Tallaght are investigating the death and a post-mortem will take place at the Dublin City Morgue. Meanwhile, the road has fully re-opened following an examination of the site.

A woman, aged in her 40s, was the driver of the SUV. She did not require hospital treatment following the incident.

Gardai said: “At approximately 7:15pm, Gardaí and Emergency Services were alerted after a 23-year-old male pedestrian was struck by an SUV on the N81, Tallaght.

“He was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver and sole occupant of the car, a woman in her 40s, did not require hospital treatment.

“The deceased has been removed to the Dublin City Morgue where a post-mortem examination will be carried out. An examination of the crash site has been completed and the road has since fully reopened to traffic.”

An Garda Siochana is appealing for witnesses of the collision to come forward. They would also like to access any dash cam footage taken in the area at the time.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda Station 01 6666000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station,” the statement said.
