Man, 22, charged following attempted robbery and burglary at service station in County Durham

A man has been charged following a suspected robbery attempt in Peterlee.

Police were called to Southside Service Station, in Yoden Way at about 6.30am on Sunday following reports that a man was demanding cash at the night hatch.

Jacob Grant Chambers, 22, of Moutter Close in Horden was charged with attempted robbery and burglary.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "The man allegedly threatened to set the building on fire if the assistant did not hand it over.

"It is believed the suspect made off from the scene and proceeded to burgle a nearby house.

"Officers attended and arrested Jacob Grant Chambers in connection with the two incidents."

Durham Constabulary confirmed he was interviewed by officers and charged with attempted robbery and burglary.

The spokesperson for the force added: "The 22-year-old, of Moutter Close, Horden, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning (February 21).

"He did not enter any pleas and was remanded into custody until his next hearing at Durham Crown Court on March 21."
