Man, 20s, and teen arrested in relation to stabbing of Thomas Dooley in Kerry graveyard

Gardai have arrested a further two people in relation to the stabbing of a man in a Kerry graveyard last month.

Father-of-seven Thomas Dooley, 43, was killed on October 5 following the burial of young Killarney mother-of-five Bridget O'Brien.

Five arrests had already been made before Tuesday.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí have arrested two males as part of the investigation into the fatal assault in Rathass Cemetery, Tralee, Co. Kerry on Wednesday, 5th October 2022.

"One man (aged in his 20s) and one male youth (aged in his teens) are currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Tralee Garda Station.

"Investigations are ongoing."

Patrick Dooley, 35, of Arbutus Grove, Killarney, is charged with the murder of his older brother at a Tralee graveyard on October 5.

Thomas Dooley, 41, of Carrigrohane Road, Cork , a cousin and namesake of Mr Dooley, has also been charged with murder at the same location and on the same date.

Tommy, 43, from Ballyspillane in Killarney, died from multiple injuries sustained at New Rath Cemetery in Tralee.

His wife Siobhan, who suffered injuries during the same incident, received emergency medical treatment at University Hospital Kerry before being discharged the following day.

Tommy's devastated family previously appealed for anyone who attended the funeral of the late Bridget O'Brien and witnessed the stabbing of Mr Dooley to come forward.

In a post on social media, one relative asked anyone who had seen anything and not yet come forward to contact Tralee Garda Station anonymously.

The relative wrote: "We know people had to see something, we would really appreciate it and can people please share this message," and ended it with "RIP Tom Dooley."
