Man, 20, stabbed to death inside shop with attacker still on the loose

A man has been stabbed to death in a London shop as police hunt his attacker who is on the loose.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the shop in Norwood Road, Lambeth, shortly before 6pm on Saturday.

Officers along with paramedics and the air ambulance found a man, aged 20, suffering from stab injuries and while he was given first aid, he could not be saved and died at the scene, said the police.

The attacker has not yet been found and not arrests have been made.

The victim's family is believed to not yet be aware of the horrifying attack, and local Met Police officers have been granted with extra Stop and Search powers over the coming hours.

A spokesperson said: "Police were called at 5.58pm on Saturday, April 15 to reports of a stabbing in Norwood Road, SE27. Officers responded with LAS and London's Air Ambulance. They found a male inside a shop suffering from stab injuries.

"Despite the efforts of paramedics, the male, believed to be aged 20, died at the scene. Officers believe they know who the deceased is and are working to inform his next of kin."

Police confirmed that there have been no arrests at this early stage while a crime scene is in place and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

In a statement the police also said a Section 60 Order granting officers additional stop and search powers had been authorised in the area. Anyone who has information, video or images that could help police should call 101 quoting reference number CAD 5605 of April 15.

Police have also tweeted an appeal for information stating: "An investigation is ongoing following a fatal stabbing in #Lambeth. A 20yo man was fatally injured in West Norwood Road SE27 this evening. Do you have info/ images/ video that could help police?"

Traffic monitoring website Inrix is reporting: "A215 Norwood Road in both directions blocked, queueing traffic due to accident near Tulse Hill Gyratory."

A local journalist Tom Gordon-Brown was at the scene just before 8pm where he described the atmosphere.

Writing on Twitter he said: "Norwood Road outside Tulse Hill Station closed, Police say a young man has been 'murdered' after a stabbing. They told me it happened about one hour ago.

"People gathering around hugging each other crying. Needless to say its the most horrendous and sad atmosphere."
