A 20-year-old man has been stabbed to death in south London, Scotland Yard said.

Police on patrol were alerted to the victim, found injured at the junction of Melfort Road and Sandfield Road, Thornton Heath, near Croydon at 4.16pm on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital where he sadly died in the early hours of Wednesday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “His next of kin have been informed and formal identification awaits.“

A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.”

There have been no arrests and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

Meanwhile, one woman was knifed to death and another wounded during a double stabbing in Wembley on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old victim died at the scene in Neeld Crescent. A second female, 28, was taken to hospital with injuries assessed as non-life threatening.

A man, 24, and a woman, 23, were arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene.

Another man, 23, had been detained in Harrow at 6pm after a police appeal to locate him.
