A much-loved family-run Italian restaurant in the heart of Roath in Cardiff has announced that, 'for the time being', it will remain closed. Mamma Lina's Italian Restaurant, which also has a branch in Rogerstone, Newport, serves up "freshly prepared authentic Italian dishes", pizzas, Arancini balls and more, and prides itself on "guaranteeing a very warm welcome".
The restaurant in the Welsh capital had temporarily closed its doors to the people of Cardiff earlier in August, citing staff shortages and holiday, with the hope of reopening on Tuesday, August 30. But now, it seems their hiatus will be longer than anticipated.
Taking to its Instagram page, Mamma Linas, which is owned by Massimo Intrigila and Gianluca Pandolfi and has been open on Albany Road since 2019, wrote: "Unfortunately, our Cardiff restaurant will remain closed for the time being. You can still enjoy Mamma Lina's delicious, authentic Italian food in our Newport restaurant. We will post any updates here as soon as we can. Grazie"

Speaking of this closure, Gianluca told WalesOnline: "Unfortunately we have had to make this difficult decision due to spiralling food and energy costs and the difficulty in recruiting staff. Its a real shame because our team have worked so hard to establish our Cardiff restaurant and our customer base was growing but like so many other restaurants, we cannot keep the restaurant open due to the current market conditions.
"We are going to focus all our efforts now in our Rogerstone restaurant and hope the powers that be do something to help businesses in these incredibly tough times."
Mamma Linas restaurant in Rogerstone will remain open and can be found at 68 Tregwilym Road, Rogerstone, Newport NP10 9EJ
