West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee suffers injury after fall at residence

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was injured on her forehead after a fall at her Kalighat residence in Kolkata on Thursday.

The 69-year-old leader was taken to the State-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.

SSKM Hospital director Manimoy Bandopadhyay said Ms. Banerjee was brought to the hospital with injuries sustained in a fall after “a push from behind”. She suffered cerebral concussion and had a sharp cut on the forehead and nose, he added.

Ms. Banerjee’s family members said she was given four sutures. She remains stable and was discharged from the hospital later in the evening.

Earlier, the Trinamool Congress posted photographs of the injured Chief Minister on X (formerly Twitter), and said: “Our chairperson @MamataOfficial sustained a major injury. Please keep her in your prayers.”

There was widespread concern in the State after the incident. Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was seen at the health facility along with other Trinamool leaders.
