Alan Carr fears he’s developing rickets after taking up a vegan diet.
The malnourished comic has stopped eating meat after buying a farm in Kent, and has developed anaemia as a result.
“I don’t have any folic acid,” he explains. “I’m on this vegan diet.
“I’m basically getting rickets because I love animals.”
Rickets, a bone condition, can be caused by a lack of calcium or vitamin D. “ I’m off eating cows because we’ve got cows,” explains Alan. “We rescue alpacas, sheep, chickens, pygmy goats - it’s an absolutely money pit.
“They’re ungrateful - we save these animals and they still give dirty looks.”
He notes other comics including Catherine Tate, John Bishop and Paul O’Grady have all gotten into farming.
“There’s something about comedians and farms,” he says. “I think we probably hate humans. You never get heckled by a cow. I prefer animals to people.”
Alan was chatting to Stacey Dooley on today’s episode of his Life’s a Beach podcast, where the presenter reveals she is partial to a nudist beach.
“I love being naked,” she says.
“I love running about in my knickers. I live my best life.
“But I make sure I wear factor 50 on my nipples – you don’t want to get burnt.”
Wise advice during the country’s current heatwave.
