Malibu Mayor Doug Stewart addressed rumors of possible permits for expedited re-entry into evacuation zones, dismissing them as false. As several areas remain under mandatory evacuation orders, Stewart clarified that there are no permits available for faster access to these zones.
He emphasized that any claims or offers to provide such permits are not legitimate. Additionally, Stewart mentioned that some residents have hired private contractors seeking access to evacuation zones, which is currently prohibited.
Stewart acknowledged the community's eagerness to return home but stressed the ongoing active fire incident in the area. He assured residents that efforts are being made to facilitate a safe and swift return to their homes.
Over the weekend, Stewart revealed that Malibu had already lost a significant portion of its eastern edge to the Palisades fire. This latest fire marks the third blaze to impact the city within a span of three months, following the Franklin Fire and Broad Fire.
