Malahide woman upcycles dad's retro Dublin GAA jerseys for London Fashion Week

A Malahide woman upcycled retro GAA jerseys from her father's wardrobe for London Fashion Week.

Robyn Lynch made her LFW solo catwalk debut with her menswear collection at the weekend and the line was first inspired by sustainable fashion.

Her dad Mick works at The Pearl Deli in Baldoyle and his daughter took his beloved jerseys from 1993 to 2001.

The 29-year-old had the audience on their feet in the Newgen space in the old Selfridges hotel with her Irish inspired collection.

The designer said: “The main inspiration for this collection came from my experience working with Columbia over the past year.

“Their use of fabrication and technology has inspired me to push further in the development of my main line.

"Merging the two into one collection allows us to grow as a brand in stockists and offer the collection to more territories.”

Lynch uses her Irish upbringing and culture as the base of the brand's ethos and inspiration, paying tribute to her roots with the youthful style of silhouette and traditional Irish cable knits, according to the LFW website.

Robyn also wanted to “break down traditional stereotypes that are associated with Irish references and culture and bring it into a diverse 2022”.

She did this by elevating four sentimental Dublin football jerseys from her father's wardrobe into runway fashion.
