Make a Wish Foundation grants sick five-year-old Ayrshire girl's dream of becoming a princess

A five-year-old transplant patient has been granted her wish of becoming a princess for a day by an international charity.

Wee Alyssia Graham was given an emergency liver transplant at just two years old and for the longest time, all she's ever wanted was to be a princess for the day.

So proud Kilmarnock mum Lorel decided to nominate her wee fighter to the Make-A-Wish charity who helps fulfill the wishes of children with critical and life-limiting illnesses.

And the charity came through for brave Alyssia by organising a magical day.

Princess Alyssia was treated to a limo ride to a salon where her ladies-in-waiting were on hand to give her a full pamper morning and make-over.

Then the little princess was whisked away by a unicorn-led carriage on a tour of her Kilmarnock Kingdom before heading off to her royal residence of Knock Old Castle in Largs where the little royal partied with her favourite storybook princesses before finishing the night with a mermaid swim in a hot tub.

And the charity even organised for Kilmarnock photographer Karen Simpson to capture every moment of the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Proud mum Lorel said: "From start to finish, she was buzzing.

"Alyssia loves Elsa from Frozen and loves watching Disney princess movies. Her biggest dream was to be a real-life princess and I can't thank everyone who donated to make Alyssia's dream come true.

"When she was just two years old, Alyssia was getting quite sick but doctors kept fobbing it off as a viral infection until one day she was really unwell I took her to Crosshouse and within three or four days she was given an urgent liver transplant in Birmingham.

"It all happened so quickly. They took her liver for testing but we've never been given a diagnosis so officially Alyssia has 'acute liver failure with no diagnosis'.

"She's gotten better and even though she's suspectable to infections and jaundice she's still managed to start primary one in August 2022.

"She is so sweet and well-natured, Alyssia is just the funniest little girl and keeps her chin up through it all; she makes me so proud.

"I got in touch with Make A Wish because she's been through a lot and she deserved a treat after everything she's gone through.

"I want to thank Make-A-Wish UK, Pamper Kids Ayr, Karen Simpson Photography, and the owners of Knock Old Castle in Largs for giving Alyssia a day to remember.

"I'm so proud of my wee girl and how much she's overcome in such a short time."
