Make a splash

Art lovers are invited to enter a new universe created for humankind at the exhibition "The Endless Swimming Pool", on display at RCB Photographer's Gallery 2 of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24, until March 19.

This is the third solo exhibition by Phannapast Taychamaythakool, whose works are greatly admired by Thai and foreign collectors. Her distinctive style has also caught the eye of major international brand Gucci.

As raw and revelatory as confessions from a private diary, the collection features several new paintings and sculptures that pose questions relating to self-discovery.

Her works demarcate new frontiers for self-reflection having been distilled from her wanderings in the crepuscular region between reality and dreams. She cites Carl Jung's words as a source of inspiration for her latest show: "Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes."

Her mode of artistic discovery entails a subtle juxtaposition of humans in the past and the present. She reflects that we all live in the cross-current of dream and reality and, perhaps, we've been swimming in this endless pool all along.

This exhibition creates a novel universe for humankind -- a swimming pool saturated with colours, lights, symbols and mythological creatures derived from diverse belief systems.

The artist invites viewers to take the plunge and join her in the swimming pool, allowing their subconscious senses to run wild and free.
