Majorca plane crash leaves five dead after helicopter collides with plane

Authorities on the Spanish island of Majorca have said at least five people were killed in a collision between a helicopter and a small plane.

The crash occurred just after 1:30pm local time near Inca in the middle of the island.

The nationalities of the dead are still unknown - but a child is thought to be one of the dead.

Inca is situated between Palma and Pollensa and is the third biggest town on the island.

A twitter account reporting news of forest fires and emergencies in the Balearic islands @iffbaleares said there had been a crash between a helicopter and plane.

The helicopter is believed to be a Bell 206 model and according to local media five people have died.

The twitter account confirmed the news and said in Spanish: "Official confirmation At 1335 hours today there has been an air accident between a helicopter and an ultra lightweight in Inca, Costitx's old road.

"The first report is of 5 dead people, one of them minor. Emergency services are acting."
