United Airlines announced on Friday that all its aircraft were grounded due to a third-party software outage that was affecting computer systems globally. This outage led to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issuing a ground stop for several major US carriers.
The airline stated that they were actively working to resolve the software issue and restore their systems. As a result, all flights were being held at their departure airports until the problem was fixed. However, flights that were already in the air were allowed to continue to their destinations.
In addition to United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and Allegiant Airlines were also impacted by the software outage, leading to a grounding of their flights regardless of their intended destinations, as confirmed by the FAA.
Furthermore, international airlines such as Virgin Australia and Qantas reported experiencing technical disruptions as well, although they were still able to maintain their operations amidst the ongoing software issues.
