A major stretch of works by Irish Water begin on the Strand Road in Sandymount today and will continue for the next four weeks.
The works are part of the East City arterial water main replacement project and restrictions will be coming into place along the Southbound route. Works are taking place on Beach Road and Strand Road from Sean Moore Road to Merrion Gates and will be delivered in phases.
In late September works began along the Ringsend Park end of the project at the Sean Moore Road. Now works have progressed to the southbound carriageway on Beach Road/Strand Road.
The overall works are expected to be completed in Spring 2023. Irish Water says that the water main is currently being operated at a greatly reduced capacity and is prone to frequent bursts and high levels of leakage.
Irish Water said: "The works to rehabilitate this critical trunk water main are planned using engineering techniques which greatly reduce the project duration, truck movements, noise and limit the overall impact of the works on the local community.
"Works have now commenced on Beach Road/Strand Road and a full lane closure of the south bound lane on Beach Road/Strand Road from the Sean Moore Road to the Merrion Gates is in place. Vehicular access southbound has been retained for local and emergency services only."
