Major search for British girl, 19, who disappeared while swimming in Netherlands

A major search is under way for a British teenager who went missing while swimming off the coast of the Netherlands.

The girl, 19, was one of four British people who got into difficulty while swimming in the sea near The Hague on Sunday evening, according to local news outlet NL Times.

The incident is said to have happened near the Zuidelijk Havenhoofd around 8.30pm.

Three of the people - thought to also be in their late teens - were rescued and were reportedly taken to hospital.

A witness told local news outlet Omroep West: “Two boys were pulled out of the water right in front of me. They both had bloody legs.

“There was also a mother there who was panicking and screaming.”

The eyewitness said the boys had been injured while trying in vain to rescue the 19-year-old girl who is still missing.

“The water was so wild, really impassable. Those boys barely survived,” they told Omroep West.

Rescue teams have been searching for the teenager along the nearby shoreline since she disappeared, with boats and helicopters involved in the operation.
