Major resurfacing works on Badminton Road to create 'significant noise'

Major resurfacing works along Badminton Road will create a 'significant amount of noise' and could restrict access to homes, South Gloucestershire Council has warned.

An overnight closure is in place on Badminton Road from the Oakdale Road junction to Westbourne Road in Downend from today (March 7) to March 23. The stretch of the main road is closed from 8pm to 6am, with alternative routes signposted around the affected area.

The council says there "may be periods of time when access to properties by vehicle will be unachievable," and it is possible that delays may occur on the surrounding network. Motorists are advised to "avoid the area if possible" for the duration of the works.

A letter to residents reads: "I am writing to advise you about essential roadworks that are to be carried out at Badminton Road, Downend (between No 107 the junction of Westbourne Road.) From March 7 2022, the road will be subject to major resurfacing works.

"The works will involve the planning off of the existing surface of the carriageway and the laying of a new surface. The work will start at 8.00pm and remain in place until approximately 6.00pm. These works will create a significant amount of noise.

"For the duration of the works, the road will be closed and all traffic will be diverted around the area whilst the closures are in place. We will make every effort to ensure that access to properties and amenities fronting the site and whose only access is from the closed road, is kept available and the disruption to local residents is kept to a minimum.

"However, there may be periods of time when access to properties by vehicle will be unachievable, and for this, we apologise. Please note that adverse weather conditions or plant/delivery problems may affect these times and dates.

"Although alternative routes will be signposted whilst the works are in progress, it is possible that delays may occur on the surrounding network. Please watch the local press for any further news, but you are advised to avoid the area if possible for the duration of the works. South Gloucestershire Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by these essential works."

It comes as the council is carrying out works on another stretch of Badminton Road, between Coalpit Heath and Yate, to allow for the installation of a brand new cycle track. There are currently temporary traffic lights in place along the main road, outside The New Inn pub. The works along Badminton Road are part of a £174million investment in improving South Gloucestershire's network over a four year period.
