Major parties rake in over $140m in political donations

Labor and the coalition have raked in more than $140 million in donations in 2023/24, according to Australian Electoral Commission data.

Rounding note: to the nearest $100,000 for over $1 million, to the nearest $10,000 for under $1 million and to the nearest $1000 under $100,000

Labor

* National - $15 million

* NSW branch - $13.3 million

* Victoria branch - $11.1 million

* Queensland branch - $10.6 million

* South Australia branch - $2.9 million

* Tasmania branch - $2.2 million

* Western Australia branch - $8 million

* Northern Territory branch - $980,000

* ACT branch - $3.5 million

* Total - $67.5 million

Liberal Party

* National - $11.1 million

* NSW branch - $11.9 million

* Victoria branch - $15.6 million

* Liberal National Party of Queensland - $13.7 million

* South Australia branch - $2.9 million

* Tasmania branch - $3.4 million

* Western Australia branch - $4.9 million 

* ACT branch - $34,000

* Total - $64 million

National Party 

* National - $2.5 million

* NSW branch - $4.2 million

* Victoria branch - $1.5 million

"Hidden Money"

* The source of more than $35 million of donations to the coalition (48 per cent), $25.5 million to Labor (38 per cent) and $7.7 million to the Greens (45 per cent) weren't declared, according to Centre for Public Integrity analysis. 

* The threshold under which parties didn't need to declare donations was $16,300 in 2023/24 and increased to $16,900 for 2024/25.
