Major Nottinghamshire employer confirms redundancies after 'change to operations'

A major employer in Nottinghamshire has confirmed it has made a number of staff redundant due to changes to its operations. British Sugar said six staff had left their roles at its factory in Newark as the company tries to be more efficient in its operations.

“At British Sugar, we operate a flexible factory operating model that enables us to always deliver the quality product customers want, in a format that suits them," said site general manager Sam Sanders-Hewett. "As part of delivering what our customers need and further improving efficiencies we made some changes to our warehouse operations and distribution network earlier in the year.

"Regrettably, this impacted on six roles in this area at our Newark factory and these have now been made redundant. The Newark factory remains focused on preparing for the upcoming sugar beet campaign.”
