NEW DELHI: The inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC) will see six teams - Texas Super Kings, Los Angeles Knight Riders, Seattle Orcas, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, and Washington Freedom - fighting for the trophy.
Notably, four out of the six teams are owned by franchises from the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).
Knight Riders Group bought Los Angeles Knight Riders in the MLC. KKR, who won the IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, are also owned by the Knight Riders Group.
Indiawin Sports are the owners of MI New York in MLC. Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL champions, are also owned by Indiawin Sports. Indiawin Sports is a 100% subsidiary of Reliance Industries.
Chennai Super Kings are the co-owners of the Texas Super Kings. MS Dhoni-led CSK won the IPL 2023 title. This was CSK's fifth IPL title.
GMR Group, who owns IPL team Delhi Capitals, are the co-owners of the Seattle-based franchise - Seattle Orcas - as well in partnership with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
