MORTON'S Championship clash against Raith Rovers has been called off after a major gas leak in Greenock.
In a statement this afternoon, the club confirmed the fixture's "frustrating" postponement and stated that specialists had been called in to tackle the issue.
Dougie Imrie's side’s game against the Kirkcaldy outfit had already been pushed back by a day to give the Cappielow pitch time to recover from the low temperatures experienced in the area this week.
A club spokesperson said that even if the gas leak had not occurred, Cappielow's surface would still have been "against the clock" to be deemed playable for tomorrow's game.
Ton officials say a new date will be confirmed for the fixture in due course.
The club's statement said: "Tomorrow’s William Hill Championship match against Raith Rovers has been postponed following a major gas leak at Cappielow.
"Services are on hand to fix the issue but we have been advised this will not be fixed in time for tomorrow's match.
"The pitch is also still suffering from the low temperatures this week and would have been against the clock to be fit for tomorrow.
"We understand this is frustrating for supporters and it is very frustrating for the club as well.
"A new date will be announced in due course."
A ScotRail spokesperson has confirmed that despite the gas leak's close proximity to nearby railway line, services between Cartsdyke and Bogston are running as scheduled at present.
