Major Freeview update as anyone who owns a TV urged to retune

Fans of Freeview are in for a treat, with two brand-new channels launching without any subscription fees to access them. And the good news doesn't end there, with further content coming next month, also completely free of charge.

Anyone who uses the popular network to get their daily dose of entertainment may want to give their devices a quick retune, with the free-to-view platform launching two new channels in the form of EarthxTV and Celebration TV.

Both of which are broadcasting now, with EarthxTV (channel 79) showing environment and sustainability based content, while Celebration TV (channel 275) offers programmed centred around faith and religion.

The Express reports that alongside the launch of the new channels, Freeview has also confirmed some changes to its current content schedule. The beloved Now 90s service has been relocated from channel 79 to 87, with Country Music Entertainment being rebranded to Classic Hits.

Like all Freeview updates, users will have to retune their television sets to access the new content.

Confirming the changes, Freeview said in a post on its website: "Some broadcasters are making important changes to their family of channels and two new channels, EarthxTV and Celebration TV are launching on Freeview. You will need to retune to update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide up to date."

The update also comes will more free content landing on the platform as of next month, thanks to the take off of a new film service in GREAT!, which already offers a number of movie channels on the likes of Sky TV and Freeview. Next month, GREAT! movies Christmas will come along, dedicating screen time to an abundance of festive flicks.

Although Christmas Day is still well off on the horizon, GREAT! will allow users to get into the spirit prematurely this year, when it arrives on September 8. The firm will broadcast movies 24 hours a day, seven days a week - screening classics like A Christmas Melody with Mariah Carey.

Other hit films which have been confirmed thus far are Call Me Claus starring Whoopi Goldberg, A Christmas Star with Liam Neeson, Pierce Brosnan and Suranne Jones, and The Christmas Candle featuring Lesley Manville, John Hannah and Sylvester McCoy. To tune in, you can find the service on Freeview 52, Sky 319, Virgin 424 and Freesat 303 from next month, free to watch on all platforms.
