Major Edinburgh road closed as two men rushed to hospital after car struck pedestrian

Two men have been rushed to hospital following a crash in Edinburgh.

Police and the Scottish Amubulance Service were called to Easter Road after a car struck a male pedestrian between Edina Place and Bothwell Street at around 10.55am on May 9.

Edinburgh drivers have been warned that the road is now closed and Lothian Buses have issued an update.

On their website, the bus operator alerted customers that the number 1 and 35 services are diverted. It wrote: "Due to the road closure, buses are unable to serve London Road and Easter Road and are instead diverted via Leith Walk and Duke Street in both directions until further notice."

The number 35 bus will be diverted via Montrose Terrace, Abbeymount, Marionville Road, Lochend Road South, and Lochend Road in both directions until further notice

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 10.55am on Tuesday, 9 May 2023 police received a report of a car striking a pedestrian in Easter Road, Edinburgh.

"Police and SAS attended and the male driver of the car and male pedestrian have been taken to hospital by SAS. (No further details at this time).

"Easter Road has been closed and diversions are in place.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident."
