Major disruption to rail services after person hit by train near Alexandra Palace

A major rail line out of London has been hit with “major disruption” after a person was hit by a train and died near Alexandra Palace.

National Rail said there would be disruption between London Kings Cross / Moorgate and Stevenage expected until 7pm after the incident.

The line was closed while emergency services responded to the scene, but has since reopened.

In a message to customers, the Great Northern train company said services were disrupted due to a “fatality” between Alexandra Palace and Finsbury Park stations.

Thameslink added in a message to its customers: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Finsbury Park and Alexandra Palace Stations.

“All services running to or between these stations will be delayed or cancelled whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident.”

National Rail said: “A person has been hit by a train between London Kings Cross and Stevenage.

“The line will be closed whilst the emergency services carry out their work. Trains will be cancelled or delayed.”

Affected routes include Grand Central between London Kings Cross and Sunderland / Bradford Interchange,  Great Northern between Moorgate and Stevenage / Welwyn Garden City and Hull trains between London Kings Cross and Beverley / Hull.

Also affected are LNER trains between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh / Leeds / Harrogate / Aberdeen / Inverness / Lincoln / Hull; Lumo services between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh; and Thameslink between London Kings Cross and Royston, and also between Brighton and Royston.
