Major care home planned for Prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club

A care home developer is bidding to build a 60 bed care home and 23 assisted living flats on the practice range at Prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club.

Northcare (Scotland) Ltd, which has several ‘luxury’ care home developments throughout the central belt, is looking to move into Ayrshire with the ambitious development.

The company, which is based in East Kilbride, will hold two public consultation events between 2pm and 7pm on both Wednesday, May 3 and Wednesday, May 24 at the golf course Clubhouse in East Road.

These events will allow the community to hear about and give feedback on the plans before any formal planning application is made to South Ayrshire Council.

No further details of the development are available, but the outline application states that it would include both car parking and a community garden.

The site is located at the junction of East Road and Fairway View and had been considered for housing in 2015, without any plan being brought forward.

Northcare (Scotland) Ltd says it is a family run business which has been established for over 30 years and owns care homes in the South Lanarkshire, Glasgow City, East Renfrewshire and Edinburgh.

The majority of these homes are purpose built ‘luxury’ homes.

Comments are being invited on the proposal ahead of a formal planning application.

These can be made during the consultation events or via email to r.finc@cundall.com.

As this is a consultation event held by the developer, comments are not considered in any formal South Ayrshire Council planning application and any representations would require to be made as part of the application process.

Prestwick St Cuthbert was formed in 1899, but moved from its home during the development of Prestwick Airport, with the current course set up in 1963.

The parkland club co-hosted the 2017 Scottish Amateur Championships.

Northcare’s website states: “Clients will be supported to achieve independence and inclusion within the community.

“Any disabilities will be recognized and honoured by providing varying degrees and methods of support to suit the individual concerned.

“This will be undertaken in the highest quality environment which is safe and secure.”

Prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club has been asked for comment.
