Major British Gas scheme to get £750 off energy bills - apply now before 4pm

Friday marks the final day where people in the UK can sign up for an initiative that could see them given as much as £750 to help with their energy bills.

At 4pm on March 18, a major scheme that is intended to provide financial relief to households struggling with soaring bills will close.

As reported by Birmingham Live, British Gas is offering up to £750 to applicants — and you don't even need to be a customer with the supplier.

The scheme has been championed by financial guru Martin Lewis on his ITV show ahead of the energy cap rise set to take place in April.

According to Ofgem, households could see bills rise by as much as £700 — with a further increase set to come in October — which is why British Gas has implemented its scheme.

To apply online, you must be living in fuel poverty and have savings totalling less than £1,000.

Director of policy and advocacy at National Energy Action (NEA) Peter Smith stated: "At this exceptionally challenging time, any support for sky high energy bills is in huge demand and unfortunately current assistance is limited.

"Many support organisations will often only have funding agreed until the end of March so it's important people are aware of the schemes that are still open and apply fast - before the 50% increase in energy bills kicks in at the start of April.

"It is also important that people have the confidence to contact their energy supplier directly if they are worried, especially if they think they are in or at risk of falling into debt. They must work with you to provide you with a manageable way of paying what you might owe and should be able to signpost other forms of support".
