Emergency services are responding to an accident on one of Ayrshire's busiest roads this afternoon.
Eyewitnesses have confirmed that a car is on its roof on the southbound stretch of the A77 near Kilmarnock after a two-car crash.
Units have been deployed to the incident between New Farm and Fenwick with police trying to divert traffic off the motorway and into the village of Fenwick.
Major tailbacks are causing severe delays for drivers on the busy route ahead of the bank holiday weekend.
An eyewitness told Ayrshire Live: "Traffic is pretty much at a standstill all the way up. It looks a bad one.
"There was a car on its roof and police are telling everyone to come off at the junction before the accident."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.30pm on Friday, April 29, police were called to a two-vehicle crash on the A77 near the Grassyards Interchange. Emergency services remain at the scene.”
