Maisie Smith announces new role as she teams up with Strictly co-star Kevin Clifton

Maisie Smith has revealed the new role she will be taking up following her EastEnders exit in December.

The actress is teaming up with former Strictly Come Dancing pro Kevin Clifton, who she performed with during the show's Children In Need special in 2019.

Following that, Maisie took part in the main show and made the final with Gorka Márquez, and she has since performed for the show's live tour.

Now, Maisie is back dancing again and with Kevin too, while she is also teaming up with Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood.

The trio are all part of the Strictly Ballroom the Musical tour, based on the hit film - with Craig directing the stage show, and Kevin and Maisie performing.

Her role was announced on ITV's Lorraine on Wednesday, with Kevin and Craig already being confirmed for the show prior.

Kevin stepped out and discussed the new role and working with Craig, before teasing who his co-star would be.

All was then revealed when an excited Maisie walked out and joined him on the sofa, before sharing all the details.

Maisie told host Lorraine Kelly: "It's brilliant. Obviously we met a couple of years ago. I started my brief Strictly journey with you so it is only fitting we get to continue it now."

On where the past few years have gone, she added: "It is a blur, it's just pre-Covid in my eyes."

Meanwhile, a recent change to the Strictly judging panel was announced as Bruno Tonioli stepped back for good.

Anton Du Beke will return as a judge for the upcoming series and beyond. Bruno confirmed it was his decision to step down, and gave his blessing for Anton to replace him.

Anton will join usual judges Craig, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas as a new batch of celebrities take to the dance floor this autumn.

Anton said of the news: "Woohooo! This is BRILLIANT news. Everyone knows how much I absolutely love the show and I’m utterly delighted to be continuing as a regular judge."

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV and ITV Hub.
