Mairis Briedis dresses up as 'Mario' in response to Jake Paul jibe

Mairis Briedis dressed up as 'Super Mario' in response to being misnamed by YouTube star Jake Paul.

The Latvian star has frequently called out Paul for a boxing fight and even had a tattoo inked before releasing a 'diss track' in order to try and push a potential meeting.

Briedis was ringside for cruiserweight rival Lawrence Okolie's successful defence of his WBO cruiserweight belt at The O2 arena in London.

Featuring on the broadcast, Briedis explained his costume, saying: "DAZN is a great platform for making Jake, I am Mario now if you are afraid of real fighters let's play our game and I will smash out all the coins from you, and this small star from your hat."

Briedis also brought a McDonalds takeaway to the ring when confronting Okolie about a potential unification clash.

Okolie worked in the fast-food restaurant before taking up boxing and going on to represent Great Britain at the OIympics.

YouTube star Paul has made a wave in boxing since his emergence on the scene having defeated Tyron Woodley twice and Ben Askren.

He has been subject to several call-outs from the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, previous scheduled opponent Tommy Fury and also Briedis.

However Paul claimed he had not seen Breidis' efforts to stage a fight and confirmed Okolie's theory that the YouTuber did not know who the Latvian champion was.

"There's really no boxer with a big enough name to make an interesting enough event that are anywhere near my weight class or experience level," Paul said on the MMA Hour.

"Fighting for the world title would be the only fight that would sell, but I don't even know who the cruiserweight champion is.

"I think Canelo was supposed to fight him or something [Ilunga Makabu].

"It just doesn't make any sense, it's my sixth fight and this guy is a world champion, so no-one really has a big enough name in the boxing world."

Paul is yet to plot a return to the ring as he continues his co-promotion of the female clash between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

The YouTube star has returned to his gym as he continues to ponder his future after securing his fifth victory at the end of last year.

He has admitted that he is not yet motivated by any potential choice of opponent and is waiting for the correct calibre of opponent to arise.

"I am very busy on the business side of things with my venture capital fund, so I haven't even got back into the gym or been training at all," Paul said.

"I need to have a discussion with my coaches. So probably like August or September, maybe later. I am trying to figure it out, obviously if the stars align in some sort of way, or I have a change of heart things can obviously move around.

"But right now I don't feel that motivated to just go right back into a training camp."
