Maik Nawrocki provides Celtic injury update as he sets debut target

Maik Nawrocki has admitted it will take him a few weeks to be fully up to speed at Celtic.

However, the summer signing has revealed he is ready to make his debut in James Forrest's testimonial tomorrow night.

The centre-back, 22, had been nursing an ankle injury but insists he is set to feature against Atletic Bilbao at Celtic Park on Tuesday.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Nawrocki explained: "I'm ready to play tomorrow. It was better to stay one more day off, than coming back too early.

"It will not be easy [to get in to the team] but we will see what with the game tomorrow and then what will be on Saturday."

Admitting it will take some extra time to be fully fit to perform at his best, Nawrocki added: "It will take a few weeks but I hope it will be as fast as possible.

"But when I play I have no excuses, no injuries - tomorrow will be my first game."

Brendan Rodgers had confirmed both Carl Starfelt and Nawrocki were nursing ankle knocks which kept them out of the match against Wolves in Dublin at the weekend.

Yuki Kobayashi is also sidelined and is expected to remain out for a few weeks after suffering an injury blow during the trip to Japan.

Rodgers had said: “Carl twisted his ankle, so he couldn’t travel. Hopefully he’ll be okay for Tuesday.

“Kobayashi will be out for a few weeks. He obviously got injured in one of the games in Japan.

“Maik tweaked his ankle before he trained with us. But hopefully he’ll be okay for Tuesday."
