A humiliated woman who unknowingly ruined her best friend's perfect beachside wedding says she didn't even know her pal was getting married. According to the guest, her friend and husband invited her and her spouse to join them on a holiday to the picturesque island of South Padre off the southern coast of Texas, the Mirror reports.
The invite also came with very specific instructions to wear a dress she had previously worn to an anniversary dinner which she happily agreed to, as she knew her friend was planning a special event. But she was unaware of what the occasion actually was and, as she has recently given birth, she found the proposed "elegant black lace over nude dress" to be a little too tight and decided to change into a "cute semi-formal white lace dress" instead.
Little did she know, the mysterious event was actually a surprise wedding - and she was going to be the maid of honour at. Taking to Reddit to explain the situation, the distraught mum wrote: "I arrived at the event and found out it was a surprise wedding where she only invited like 20 guests on the beach.
"She hadn't told me it was her wedding because of an inside joke. (I kept telling them to get married and watch they will elope and the next thing we know they are married). She was horrified, and so was I.
"I didn't bring any other dress plus there was no time to change/buy a new dress. Also, surprise! I'm the maid of honour. I offered to either not be the maid of honour, or leave the wedding, but she rathered me not."
However, after the wedding, the bride blamed her friend for "ruining her wedding" as she said she didn't tell her she had changed her mind about the dress she was asked to wear.
The woman added: "I said I'm sorry her wedding was ruined but it wasn't my fault and she should have told me it was her wedding, and at the time of packing, I didn't find it appropriate to get her approval on my outfit."
The upset mother asked other Reddit users for their advice on the unfortunate situation as she questioned whether or not her pal was being unreasonable.
One person replied: "It makes me sad that she thinks you 'ruined' the wedding because you wore white to a surprise. To me, a wedding is ruined if like the groom doesn't show up. You’re not the a****** at all and if they're happily married, you didn’t ruin a thing."
Another advised: "A real friend would be like 'You remember that time you showed up to my surprise wedding wearing white!?' and we all have a laugh about it for years."
