Maia Dunphy defends 'decent, hard-working' staff at Ryan Tubridy's talent agency

RTE’s Maia Dunphy has defended the "really decent, hard-working people" at NK Management - the agency that represents Ryan Tubridy.

The What Planet Are You On? presenter, who is also represented by the same agency, revealed she was paid approximately €9,000 from RTE last year.

Maia, 46, took to social media to say she understands "people are very angry about the stories coming out of RTE".

Several RTE personalities have now come forward to disclose their earnings after it was revealed that Ryan Tubridy was paid almost €350,000 more than what was publicly declared in recent years.

Maia commented: "I earned about 9K from RTE last year! I have no truck with any of this."

She added that "a lot of the rhetoric and speculation flying around about talent agencies is quite unfair.

"Ireland is a small place, it stands to reason that there aren't a hundred talent agencies.

"For the record, NK Management is staffed by a lot of really decent, hard-working people."

Maia recently took to Twitter to say that in her experience working with RTE, "budgets are non-negotiable."

She stated: "An important point I'd like to make. A lot of people are represented by Noel Kelly's company, and for many of them (like me!), it's predominantly corporate work for brands and private companies that goes through the agency, where fees can be negotiated.

"Any time I have done a show for RTE, the budgets are non-negotiable; they're pre-set, usually VERY tight in the independent sector."

Maia added that she has produced much of her own content over the years, sharing "it was often difficult to make the money go far enough."

The RTE presenter is, by her own admission, an "advocate for common sense".
