MUMBAI: All India Mahila Empowerment Party (AIMEP) chief and entrepreneur Nowhera Shaik announced on Saturday that she would contest Lok Sabha election 2024 from the Hyderabad seat, which is held by Asaduddin Owaisi.
All India Majlise Ittihadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi is the incumbent MP from Hyderabad. Shaik hopes to halt Owaisi's hold in old Hyderabad as he has won this seat in several consecutive elections on wings of his popularity among Muslim voters. This has been an MIM and has given the party victory, besides in Parliament, assembly and civic elections.
"We will turn old Hyderabad in to gold. Owaisi and his party have only taken the minority votes and done little for the people. Our party will focus on people's development, including empowerment of women," Shaik said in a statement.
Shaik added that her party works at the grassroots and care for the poor and the marginalized. A spokesman for the party said that the party's performance at the upcoming assembly elections in Telangana could surprise many. With Shaik declaring that she will fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Hyderabad, the election there may become interesting.
