The Maharashtra government has decided to set up a media monitoring centre at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore to monitor reportage and act on negative or misleading news about the state government, The Indian Express reported.
The report cited a government resolution which mentioned the need to analyse news “under one roof”. The cell will be an independent project and will track news on all print and digital platforms. A professional and private consulting agency will compile and analyse the news items.
As per the GR, the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations will prepare a detailed project report and study similar models, if any, established by other states.
The agencies responsible for setting up and operating the centre will reportedly be selected through an e-tendering process for a one-year contract, extendable up to two years based on performance.
