Maharashtra: Ahmednagar police arrest four persons in Shevgaon temple theft case

NASHIK: The Ahmednagar police have arrested four suspects involved in the theft case of gold and silver jewelleries from a temple in Amrapur in Shevgaon.

Complainant Tushar Vaidya (36), resident of Pathardi in Ahmednagar and a priest at Renuka Temple in Amrapur in Shevgaon taluka had stated in his complaint that gold and silver jewellery of Rs 16.76 lakh were stolen from the closed temple where he worked as a priest. Following the complaint from Vaidya, the Shevgaon police had registered an FIR for the offences punishable under relevant sections of the IPC against the unidentified criminals.

Taking into account the sensitive issue of theft from a temple, SP Rakesh Ola had instructed the Local Crime Branch to investigate the case along with the Shevgaon police.

While the Shevgaon police were checking criminals on record, they got information that a person named Dhananjay Kale of Kopargaon had stolen the jewellery from the temple. After finding the location of suspect Kale, the police arrested him on the road between Ahmednagar and Solapur with one more suspect Bhagwan Pardeshi.

On being grilled about the theft at the Renuka temple, the duo confessed to the crime and informed that two more of their associates were involved in the theft. Subsequently, the two others - Amol Pare and Raul Lodwal were also arrested.

The police said that all the four persons arrested by them are seasoned criminals and have many cases of thefts, robbery and dacoity registered against them.
