Maharashtra: 7 killed, 15 injured as bus plunged into deep gorge

Mumbai: As many as seven people, including two children, were killed and over 15 others sustained injuries after a luxury bus plunged into a 200-foot gorge on the Nashik-Gujarat Highway in Maharashtra early on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police SG Patil said that the accident occurred on Sunday when the driver lost control of the vehicle near the Saputara hill station.

The bus was carrying 48 pilgrims from Maharashtra's Trimbakeshwar, was en route to Dwarka, Gujarat. The pilgrims were from the districts of Guna, Shivpuri, and Ashoknagar in Madhya Pradesh.

As per reports, a group of devotees from these districts had embarked on a religious journey. They were visiting various pilgrimage sites across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. The pilgrims were travelling in four buses, one of which met with the accident.

The injured are being treated in a local hospital and the rescue operation is over, officials said.
