Devotees take holy dip in Triveni Sangam on Paush Purnima

Prayagraj: The Maha Kumbh began at the dawn of 'Paush Purnima' on Monday with 6 million devotees already taking a holy dip in the Sangam by 9:30am, reports Dynamite News correspondent. 

Around 1 crore devotees have gathered from around the world to take a dip today at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj.

The first Shahi Snan 
The first Shahi Snan will take place on 14 January 2025 on Makar Sankranti. On this auspicious day, the Naga Sadhus are the first to bathe at the Sangam, followed by the general public.

Here are all the Snan dates:
January 13, 2025: Paush Purnima
January 14, 2025: Makar Sankranti (First Shahi Snan)
January 29, 2025: Mauni Amavasya (Second Shahi Snan)
February 3, 2025: Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan)
February 12, 2025: Maghi Purnima
February 26, 2025: Mahashivratri (Final Snan)

Spiritual significance  
The Shahi Snan holds immense spiritual significance, as it is believed that taking a dip at the Sangam on this day grants manifold blessings. It is said that this holy bath not only absolves the sins of the present life but also erases those of past lives. Additionally, it is believed to bring peace to the souls of one’s ancestors.

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 will run from January 13 to February 26, culminating in a series of holy bathing rituals at the Triveni Sangam.

The 45-day religious event
The 45-day religious event is expected to witness the largest-ever human gathering, with over 40 crore people anticipated to attend.

NDRF teams and water police of Uttar Pradesh Police deployed at places to ensure the safety and security of devotees.

Traffic Police authorities have made elaborate arrangements and implemented a detailed plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement and safety for devotees visiting the Maha Kumbh Mela.
