Maguire, Sancho, Fred — Manchester United injury news and return dates ahead of Chelsea fixture

Aaron Wan-Bissaka will face a late fitness test for Manchester United before their Premier League match against Chelsea on Thursday night (7.45pm). United are already set to be without six players for their Old Trafford meeting and Wan-Bissaka might yet make that seven.

France international Paul Pogba (calf) is almost certain to have made his last appearance for United as he gears up to leave on a free transfer in the upcoming summer window, while Harry Maguire (knee) and Jadon Sancho (illness) are the latest injury concerns. Here is the current state of play on the United treatment tableL

Harry Maguire

Injury: Knee

Possible return date: Monday, May 2 vs Brentford (H)

What Rangnick has said: "He has some issues with his knee — not a big thing — some niggles in his knee. He didn't train yesterday and today."

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Injury: Knock

Possible return date: April 28 vs Chelsea (H)

What Rangnick has said: "We have quite a few players missing for tomorrow and one or two still with question marks. We will have to wait and see tomorrow if Wan-Bissaka can be available."

Luke Shaw

Injury: Leg

Return date: TBC

What Rangnick has said: "We had to take him off at half-time [against Leicester] as he's having problems with his leg where had an operation back in 2015. Yeah, the doctor told me that they decided to remove the metal thing in his leg, there are two bolts that need to be removed and this will happen tomorrow [April 9] and that means he will be out for the next two or three weeks."

Fred

Injury: Hip

Possible return date: Monday, May 2 vs Brentford (H)

What Rangnick has said: "He tried to train yesterday [Tuesday] but, after training, I had a long conversation with him and he just told me he is still not fully fit, he's not 100 per cent. With a player like Fred, who is always committed to give his very best, it doesn't make sense with a muscular injury to play him too early because that we would take the risk of re-injury and this is something I don't want to do."

Paul Pogba

Injury: Calf

Return date: TBC

What Rangnick has said: "He seems to have problems with his calf. He won't be available for tomorrow [April 23] and most likely not for the upcoming games."

Jadon Sancho

Injury: n/a (tonsillitis)

Possible return date: Monday, May 2 vs Brentford (H)

What Rangnick has said: "Jadon is ill — he has had tonsillitis since yesterday [Tuesday]. He couldn't train today and won't be available tomorrow."

Edinson Cavani

Injury: Calf

Possible return date: Monday, May 2 vs Brentford (H)

After picking up a calf problem during the March international break, Cavani is expected to return to training for United on Friday morning after the Chelsea game.
