'Magnificent' fishing spots in Scotland perfect for every angler among UK's best

TWO "magnificent" fishing spots in Scotland have been named among the best in the UK.

The locations, which are perfect for any angler, were named alongside bodies of water across Britain, including Derwentwater in Cumbria.

Introducing the ranking, The Times said that spring is the "very best time of year to be an angler" as the UK's lakes and waterways "burst" into "vibrant" life.

Discussing Loch Leven, the newspaper described it as a "magnificent" 3600-acre body of water that is the "flagship" of Scotland's still-water fly fishing.

The generally shallow and "very fertile" location is said to breed "spectacular" wild brown trout that grow to "serious" sizes.

At the Meikleour Estate, "top ghillies" Calum McRoberts and Ian Jones are said to welcome both expert and novice anglers, providing fly fishing lessons if required.

The publication adds: "Much of the fishing is done from boats but bank fishing is allowed at times. There are great grayling opportunities in the winter too."
