Magician Steven Frayne, formerly known as Dynamo, has announced a new London residency for 2025.
The Bradford-born performer, 42, who is known for his mind-bending illusions, modern magic and close-up magic, will take over Underbelly Boulevard Soho from March 28 through to May 11 for Steven Frayne - Up Close and Magical.
Performing for up to 200 people a night, five days a week, fans will have the opportunity to experience Frayne’s magic up close and with absolutely nothing to hide in an intimate environment.
Speaking about the residency, a “buzzing” Frayne said: “Magic has always been my way to connect with people, I’m excited to welcome everyone to see me ‘Up Close and Magical’.
“The show is a journey to reveal what magic really is, whilst sharing my favourite pieces and the stories behind them that made me the magician I am today. It’s a real celebration of all my favourite magic and the people who helped me discover it.
“It’s been really nostalgic looking back at all the magic I’ve done throughout my career and then trying to figure out how I can surprise people - combining the best of my old favourites with the new,” he continued.
“I’ve been performing for almost two decades and with this show, I really wanted to take the time to hone in on how I want the magic to make people feel. Every night will be different and I can’t wait - I’m absolutely buzzing to finally share this with you.“
Frayne first burst onto the scene as his alter-ego Dynamo almost two decades ago and in that time has done everything from walk on water to levitate on skyscrapers, and sold out shows all over the world.
He officially “killed off” the character Dynamo in the Sky documentary Dynamo is Dead in 2023, explaining to The Big Issue the following year that the reason behind the move was because he had lost sight of where “Steven ended and Dynamo began”.
“I had been Dynamo longer than I’ve been Steven,” he told the publication. “I thought, I can’t keep hiding behind Dynamo. I just need to be what I am.”
