Magic Johnson has acquired an ownership stake in the National Women’s Soccer League’s Washington Spirit, expanding his sports team portfolio. The announcement was made by the team, revealing that Johnson has joined the investor group led by owner Michele Kang.

Johnson, known for his success in basketball and entrepreneurship, has previously invested in various sports teams, including the NFL’s Washington Commanders, MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers, WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, and MLS’s Los Angeles FC.

Johnson is set to be introduced at a school event on Friday and is expected to attend the Spirit’s upcoming home game on Saturday at Audi Field against Portland Thorns FC.
In other news, the team announced that U.S. Olympic gold medal-winning midfielder Croix Bethune will miss the season due to a knee injury. Bethune tore the meniscus in one of her knees away from training, with reports suggesting the injury occurred while throwing out the first pitch at a Nationals game on Aug. 28.
