Magaluf pool dive victim in serious condition with life-changing injuries

The British teenager who was rushed to intensive care after diving headfirst into a pool whilst on holiday in Magaluf is being treated for life-changing injuries. The 19-year-old victim remains in a serious condition following the incident on the holiday island of Majorca during the early hours of Tuesday.

It has been confirmed the young man, who has not been named, has suffered serious spinal injuries and there are fears he may never walk again. More details of the tragedy have come to light, according to local newspaper Ultima Hora.

The report states the teenager leapt into the pool at a beachfront club off the infamous Punta Ballena strip thinking he was jumping into the deep end. However, he dived headfirst into an area where the water was just two feet deep suffering catastrophic injuries.

Emergency services reported he lost a lot of blood and injuries included a broken neck and fractured vertebrae. He is being treated at Son Espases hospital in the island capital Palma and his parents have been informed.

It is the second recent tragedy involving UK holidaymakers in the party resort. Earlier this month, a 34-year-old British tourist died after falling from a seventh floor hotel balcony when he was trying to climb down to the floor before.

A UK visitor was also pulled from the sea at the nearby coastal town of Santa Ponsa on Tuesday. Local media reported the 70-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest whilst he was swimming. Lifeguards and medics performed CPR and the pensioner was rushed to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
