Police in Majorca are planning an Easter crackdown on rowdy behaviour after a series of incidents in Magaluf. Authorities in Calvia - the local government region covering the party hotspot - are planning to introduce more police patrols after a series of confrontations between revellers during recent weekends.
There are fears that incidents of excessive behaviour could increase when thousands of UK tourists arrive for the Easter break. Local government and police have already imposed a crackdown on heavy drinking in Magaluf with new rules imposed on bars and drinks offers to avoid drunken behaviour.
Several bars were cautioned in Magaluf by police this weekend for various breaches of the current Covid laws, including failing to follow rules on face coverings and not respecting social distancing. Another bar had its sound system confiscated for breaking noise levels while police had to deal with several violent incidents involving local youths and a group from neighbouring Palma.
Party booze cruises, all-you-can-drink deals and pub crawls have been banned in an attempt to stamp out drunken incidents in the resort. The rule was introduced before the pandemic, but the upcoming season is expected to be the first year tourists feel the impact.
In some areas of Magaluf, the number of alcoholic drinks permitted at all-inclusive hotels will be limited for tourists to avoid rowdy behaviour. Tourists have also been warned they face fines if they break any local laws brought in to improve behaviour on the streets of the resort.
Wearing a bikini or swimwear is outlawed away from the beach, while men are also banned from walking around without shirts. Some holiday firms and airlines have issued pre-departure warnings to tourists heading to the party resorts reminding them of the restrictions.
