We may only be one episode into the Married At First Sight (MAFS) season, but it seems like one contestant may have already legged it from the experiment. In a trailer for episode two, groom Eliot Donovan is seen packing his bags ready to leave the show after his on-screen wife didn’t live up to his long list of preferences.
In case you missed it, in episode one we’re introduced to Eliot, 35. He explains that he’s looking for a submissive gal who respects the values held up by old-school housewives. You know, a woman who loved to maintain the home, have dinner on the table and respect the word of her husband as law.
Couldn’t be me but shoot your shot, big dog.
By some sort of miracle, the experts found Lauren Hall, a gorgeous woman and business owner who dreams of being a stay-at-home housemaker. Despite being impressed by Lauren’s beauty and her aligned sensibilities on their wedding day, there was one box that the experts didn’t tick — Lauren’s age.
At 37, Lauren is two years older than Eliot. According to a clip shown after Monday’s episode, this was a deal breaker for the 35-year-old.
“There was definitely things on my non-negotiables, right, that don’t line up,” Eliot said.
“I did say I wanted someone that was younger than me, preferably someone under 30.”
He also complained that Lauren was “superficial” for him due to the “luxury luggage” she brought along with her on their honeymoon trip.
Naturally, with such strong opinions, the internet had a lot to say about old mate.
While we don’t know for sure yet if Eliot is packing his bags, MAFS relationship expert John Aiken told PEDESTRIAN.TV this season ill see “people that really struggle with commitment.”
“It’s a reflection of what’s going on in the daily world,” he explained.
“Grass is greener is a major theme throughout the show. It’s been there in the past, but not to such a great degree.”
I wonder whether he was referencing Eliot leaving the experiment…
Either way, we’ll have to wait until the next episode to see what truly goes down and whether Eliot leaves the experiment for good.
You can watch Married At First Sight on Channel Nine or 9Now.
