2025 Married At First Sight (MAFS) groom Dave Hand has come out of the woodwork to defend himself from the brutal backlash he has copped for his recent relationship woes with fan-favourite Jamie Marinos, describing the ordeal as a “no-win situation”.
It’s no secret (well, maybe to those who haven’t kept up with MAFS this year) that Dave Hand has been called out by viewers following his sudden switch-up on Jamie Marinos.
To paint you a picture of what’s been happening, Dave and Jamie were tipped to be one of the strongest couples on this year’s MAFS. However, ahead of Feedback Week, the self-proclaimed gentle giant suddenly pulled back from his loving relationship with Jamie after she confessed her love to him.
Things eventually came crashing down during a tumultuous Dinner Party where he was called out by his co-stars for his sudden bitterness towards his ‘marriage’. But despite all the trials and tribulations of Feedback Week, Jamie and Dave chose to stay for one more week, which brings them to Homestays Week.
Off the bitterness of Feedback Week, Dave was questioned by Jamie’s sister, Georgia, who grilled him for his recent behaviour.

In a mammoth tea spill, the gentle giant has revealed to Daily Mail Australia that his and Jamie’s Homestays experience wasn’t accurately portrayed on telly.
Speaking to the publication, the 2025 groom said the whole Homestays experience felt “pretty bizarre” and that what was shown on MAFS wasn’t what happened.
“The edit made it look like we stayed in separate places the entire time, but that’s just not true,” he dished.
“She did come to my place, but she just wasn’t impressed. My dog wasn’t even there because I knew she wasn’t a fan, but she still found some dog hair and left.”
MAFS’ Dave Hand claps back at the criticism from his switch up on Jamie Marinos
In response to all the flack he’s received for that sudden switch up on Jamie, Dave urged fans to remember that he was “looking for a deeper connection” and that they clashed due to their differing “love styles”.
“People are forgetting — I said from the start that I was looking for a deeper connection. Jamie on the other hand wanted to be love-bombed. We have two totally different love styles and that’s why we clash,” Dave shared.
“I know people want a yes or no answer, but that’s not how relationships work. I see glimpses of more, I see the potential, but it’s a process.
“This is what a real relationship is like, especially in this experiment. Just because I’m not where she’s at emotionally, you don’t just give up and go home. We both really do like each other.”
The 2025 groom urged viewers to see where he’s coming from when it came to Jamie’s confession, adding that he “could’ve lied” but chose to be honest about where he stood in his relationship with Jamie.
“Yes, I know she’s hurt, but that doesn’t mean people can’t try to understand where I’m coming from. There’s so much pressure in this experiment and I feel like I’m getting backlash for simply being real about my emotions,” he added.
While the groom didn’t spoil the ending of his MAFS journey, Dave admitted he still cares about Jamie post-reality TV, adding that “she’s an amazing person”.

“I still care about Jamie. I regret that she had to go through this situation,” he said.
While the 2025 season still has a couple of episodes left, I honestly don’t think that this pair will be making it past the ouch couch. In another universe, maybe, but not this one, unfortunately.
But IDK, there’s still time to prove me wrong.
Married At First Sight returns tomorrow on Channel Nine and 9Now.
