Two Married At First Sight (MAFS) participants have been stitched up badly this year: Awhina Rutene and Billy Belcher. Their partners Adrian Araouzou and Sierah Swepstone appeared to be attracted to each other and even had a lil’ cheating scandal.
After Awhina and Billy were spotted by Woman’s Day on a cute ice cream date, the rumour mill went into overdrive. Could this be the new MAFS couple that’s going to save the season? These two seem pretty genuine and were simply dealt a bad hand on the show.
You can see the pics here, and honestly, you can’t convince me these two are just friends. In the first snap, the rumoured couple are holding hands as they walk down the Perth boardwalk. In another photo, he gives her a cuddle before watching the sunset together.
According to the publication, Billy even gifted Awhina a whole bouquet of roses. This just screams romance!
“They looked really happy and comfortable,” an onlooker said. “Their chemistry was insane.”

However, Awhina told Chattr that she and Billy are just “really great friends”.
“It was my birthday and with everything that was airing on MAFS, it was very raw to him. So we were in communication, and it was a friendly catch-up, getting ice cream,” she said.
“And he got me flowers for my birthday. I really value his friendship, and I think his family are really beautiful.”
Hmm. Could this be a dig at the fact she didn’t seem to think Adrian’s family were “really beautiful” when they were verbally attacking her last night? It feels pointed!
“Sorry Australia, [it’s] friendship. I know everyone’s shipping us right now, but I’m married,” Awhina added.
I’m wondering if this is just her trying to not spoil the fact she doesn’t end up with Adrian? Only time will tell.
