MAFS 2025 Groom Tim Gromie Is Getting Dragged For The Way He Treated His Bride Katie Johnstone

Oh, so you thought last night’s episode of Married At First Sight (MAFS) was dramatic? Well, honey, you’ve got a big storm coming ‘cos fans are now pissed with incoming groom Tim Gromie.

This article contains Married At First Sight spoilers. It’s up to you if you wanna stay or leave.

Boy, oh boy. Where do I start?

While my head is still reeling over Carina Mirabile and the fact that she got matched with Paul Antoine, who ghosted her eight months before the experiment, wait until you meet Tim Gromie and his reaction to the beautiful, confident and iconic Katie Johnstone.

You see, right off the heels of Monday night’s premiere, Katie won the hearts of Aussie MAFS viewers as soon as she entered the experiment.

In her introduction, the 37-year-old CEO talked about how she was afraid of rejection, stating that she’s “used to people not being attracted to [her]” due to her looks.

“Why am I marrying a stranger? I’ve been single for 10 years and I don’t know how to get into a relationship,” Katie began.

“I haven’t let myself dream of happily ever after with somebody. Like maybe having a family and my forever person is not for me and I should not wish for that anymore.”

Immediately, the MAFS fans (and myself) immediately rushed to Katie’s side, hoping that the experts had done her right and set her up with a gentleman!!!

But unfortunately, with Tuesday night’s episode, Katie was completely done dirty and everyone is pissed with her MAFS groom, 38-year-old Tim Gromie.

To give you the world’s quickest recap (I’ll try my best) as soon as Katie walked down the aisle, Katie spoke about how she found Tim “hot”.

However, shortly after they said “I do”, a producer asked Tim how he felt about his new bride. After a brief pause, which included him swaying side to side, he replied: “Yeah, I’m not really sure how to feel.”

“I just haven’t got that initial spark, but she’s lovely and so nice and yeah, she’s a beautiful girl, but I just was surprised that I didn’t have that initial spark but she’s so lovely.”

When he was pressed on why he didn’t have “that spark”, Tim went on to say that Katie wasn’t the usual type of girl he would go for, but “she’s so lovely”.

The buffoonery continued when he told a producer, while he was mic’d up, “It’s just totally not what I wanted. Not good.”

DID HE NOT KNOW HE SIGNED UP FOR MARRIED AT FIRST SIGHT? YOU KNOW, THE SHOW WHERE YOU MARRY STRANGERS???

But wait, it gets worse. When asked about what kind of woman he was hoping to be matched with, Tim said he has “no one type” but he thought would be with a “shorter woman”.

“I normally go short, petite. Normally, go blonde,” Tim shared.

“I don’t know how to say; I’m not like I wanted a skinny — it’s not that. I definitely don’t always judge a book by its cover. So no, I don’t just run because of what the person looks like, but…

“I’m just feeling a bit deflated. Not sure why we got matched.”

Fast forward into the episode, it’s clear as day that Tim is not feeling Katie, especially during their wedding photoshoot. Heck, even the photographer clocked the awkwardness, urging the couple to get closer as it was a wedding shoot.

As Tim’s true colours slowly seep out, Katie noticed and shared in a piece to the camera that it was “concerning” that he was refusing to engage in physical touch, like cuddling for a photo.

“I went in for a cuddle and freaked him out. Like. when. you go to cuddle someone and they recoil. I don’t know when you have someone doing this, it’s a little concerning,” Katie said.

BUT WAIT, IT GETS WORSE.

After cutting the cake, Katie gestured at her cheek for a sweet kiss, but in front of the wedding party, Tim rejected her.

Sir, that is your WIFE.

Thankfully, her besties quickly rallied around her, noticing that Katie was hurt by Tim’s refusal.

“I’m really triggered,” Katie told her bride squad.

“I’m really on the edge of losing it. Like, what the hell.”

Eventually, Katie pulled her new husband aside to get to the bottom of his awkward antics. But when she asked him about his first impressions of her, Tim completely lied and said he “didn’t think too much” and that he “had such an open mind”.

LIES-A MINELLI, LIES.

When she confronted him about recoiling from her affection, Tim said it “was a lot”.

“I think it’s been a lot, the first day, but you definitely put me at ease and I couldn’t ask for someone more genuine,” Tim shared.

Straight after that heart-to-heart, where a lot of the things that Tim said were contradictions to what he mentioned earlier, the MAFS groom admitted in a voxxie that it was “hard” to be honest with Katie because of that lack of spark.

“I am hoping the spark can grow with Katie, but I can’t see that at this moment,” he shared.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE.

When we see this couple the next day, Katie is in tears, revealing that Tim told her about the absence of this spark.

“To be rejected that’s my worst nightmare. I don’t know what I’ve done wrong, why this keeps happening,” Katie shared.

“I feel humiliated.”

“I think ‘sparks’ is just a cop-out for saying I’m not attracted to you,” Katie continued.

“I’m written off so early. How am I meant to build anything with somebody when you know they’re not into you.”

Tim apologised to Katie and said that he understood if she wanted to ditch the honeymoon. When they were tasked to read their honeymoon message, Katie made Tim read it as she was too upset to do so.

What bothers me the most about Tim is that prior to this kerfuffle, he was explaining to the experts and the audience that he was a “nice guy” and gave that whole spiel about how nice guys finish last.

But IDK, by not giving this beautiful woman a chance and not giving her a fair chance and then lying about how you really feel about her during a heart-to-heart is not nice guy behaviour.

It’s giving those guys on Hinge who use their prompts to over-explain how nice they are only to be complete gronk IRL.
