Madonna to direct her own biopic in ‘strike’ against ‘misogynistic’ filmmakers

Madonna has revealed that she intends to direct her own biopic so ‘misogynistic men’ couldn’t beat her to it.

The 63-year-old musician is currently working on a feature-length biopic about her life within the entertainment world.

Speaking about the project, Madonna recently shared an update about her lengthy script as she explained why no-one else could direct the project.

In a conversation with Variety, the Material Girl said: “no one’s going to tell my story, but me”.

She also added that her decision to write and direct the biopic was a ‘preemptive strike’ against ‘misogynistic men’ who were trying to make films about her life.

Madonna continued: “I’ve had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film.”

“It was also a preemptive strike because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men.

“So I put my foot in the door and said, ‘No one’s going to tell my story, but me.’”

Elsewhere in the interview, Madonna also admitted that the script was quite long and she was struggling to narrow the story down.

“I have a very long script that is really hard for me to make shorter. I’ve been whittling away at it, but it’s like hacking off my limbs,” she admitted.

Madonna’s latest interview comes shortly after it was revealed that Julia Garner is likely to play the lead role in the biopic.

Reports at the time revealed that the audition process had lasted months and was a grueling ordeal including readings with Madonna as well as dance routines with her choreographer.
