Madonna's close friend gives health update on 'very strong' star after ICU stay

Madonna's close friend Rosie O'Donnell has given an update on the Vogue hitmaker's health after she was rushed to hospital with a bacterial infection last week which saw her admitted to ICU.

The 61-year-old A League of Their Own star Rosie took to her social media to provide the latest news on her close pal's health and revealed that Madonna is "good" and "recovering at home" as she responded to all the support love and support sent by fans.

"She is recovering at home - she is very strong in general," Rosie responded to one follower who asked for an update on the pop star's health in the comments section of a touching photo of Rosie and Madonna starring in A League of Their Own.

Captioning the photo, she penned: "Remember when? #league #mo." Rosie also replied: "[red love heart] She's good," to another concerned follower asking for an update.

It comes as Madonna was admitted to ICU last week after becoming unwell with a bacterial infection before she was discharged from the hospital and was able to recover in the comfort of her lavish $32.5 million New York mansion.

But her sudden illness has meant the postponement of her Celebration tour which had been set to kick off in Vancouver in Canada later this month. The 64-year-old had been in the final stages of rehearsals ahead of the world tour when she was taken to hospital.

The details of a new tour start date are yet to be announced, with the world tour originally set to launch in 2020 before the Covid pandemic hit across the globe.

On Wednesday last week, her manager, Guy Oseary, shocked fans with the news the star had been hospitalised as he wrote on Instagram: "On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU.

"Her health is improving, however, she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected. At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows."
